A billboard for a developer selling off-plan homes has very little in common with one announcing a clinic, a bank product or a farm-gate turn-off. The audience differs, the viewing distance differs, the site conditions differ and so does the approval route. This section of the website groups our work by sector so you can see how the same core capabilities, from steel fabrication to flighting, are applied to the way your industry actually advertises.
Billboards Africa is a BoldMedia Group company. We manufacture and erect billboard structures, print and install skins, supply digital LED screens, and manage maintenance and campaigns. We work in Gauteng and in every South African province, and across Southern and wider Africa through our own travelling teams or approved local partners, confirmed at quotation.
Sectors we work with
Each page below explains the formats, sites and practical issues we see most often in that sector. They are written to help you brief us, not to replace a site survey.
Not sure where your sector fits? Several clients straddle categories, such as a hospital group that is also a property owner. Pick the page closest to your main objective, or simply describe the campaign when you enquire.
- Property developers for launches, hoardings and building wraps
- Retail and shopping centres for centre branding, promotions and trading-area visibility
- Automotive for dealerships, model launches and service offers
- FMCG brands for high-frequency awareness and promotions
- Banking and insurance for trust-led, copy-light messaging
- Telecommunications for network, device and coverage campaigns
- Mining for site safety, community and recruitment messaging
- Construction for site hoardings and project boards
- Government and municipalities for public information and service delivery
- Political and election campaigns for party-neutral campaign production
- Events and entertainment for short, date-driven flights
- Hospitality and tourism for lodges, hotels and destinations
- Education for enrolment and open-day campaigns
- Healthcare for clinics, practices and awareness drives
- Media owners and agencies for build, print and flighting capacity
- Agriculture for rural roadside and farm-gate advertising
How your sector shapes the brief
Three questions decide most of a billboard brief: who needs to see it, from how far away, and for how long. A retailer promoting a weekend sale wants short flights on busy arterial roads. A mine publishing a safety message wants a durable face near a gate. A developer needs a hoarding that stays up for the life of a build. The answers drive the structure type, the face size, whether the face is printed or digital, and whether lighting is needed.
We start with the sector, then move to the site. That order matters because the right site for a bank awareness campaign, often a high-visibility urban or highway position, is rarely the right site for a school enrolment drive, which tends to work better close to the communities the school serves.
Timing is the other shaping factor. Retail and events work to weeks, education and agriculture to seasons, mining and construction to project phases, and property developers to sales stages. We build the flighting schedule around your calendar, so skins are printed and installed when the message is relevant and replaced when it is not. For long campaigns we recommend a skin-change schedule and periodic inspections, so a face that has weathered a season does not undermine the brand.
Budget conversations also differ by sector. Some clients want a single prominent face. Others want a coordinated programme across several towns. Neither is better in principle. Your quotation sets out what is included, what depends on approvals and what is confirmed per project, so you can compare options on the same basis.
Structures and formats we use across sectors
Our capability covers unipole and monopole structures, double-sided and V-shape billboards, trihedron units, rooftop and wall-mounted faces, gantries, hoardings and super billboards. On the digital side we supply outdoor and indoor LED screens, transparent LED and mobile LED trailers, with content management and maintenance. Printed skins are produced in PVC or flex, mesh and backlit material, and installed and changed by our flighting teams.
For hard-to-reach faces, building wraps and tall walls we use rope access and mobile cranes. Which of these suits your sector depends on the structure, the site and the approvals, and is confirmed on your quotation.
Many sectors combine formats. A developer may pair a site hoarding with a highway face. A retailer may pair a roadside billboard with indoor screens. A mine may pair a gate-side safety face with a town billboard for community messages. If you are unsure which combination suits you, describe your audience and your dates and we will suggest options.
Approvals apply in every sector
Outdoor advertising needs approval from the relevant authority. That normally means the local municipality, plus a roads authority such as SANRAL or the provincial roads department where the site is near a national or provincial road, and written consent from the landowner. We assist with applications and supporting documents. Approval rests with the authority, and we never promise an outcome.
Some sectors face extra scrutiny. Digital screens may have brightness, operating-hour and content limits set by the approving authority. Election material may carry its own rules. Messaging for health or financial products may be subject to industry codes that your own compliance team will know better than we do. Tell us early and we will plan around them.
If you already hold a municipal permit or landowner letter for a site, send it with your enquiry. If you do not, our approvals guide explains the usual steps and what we can help with.
Starting your enquiry
Send us your site details, or tell us the area you want to cover, and mention your industry and campaign dates. Use the quote form or call us. Site visits and surveys are arranged after enquiry, and office visits are by appointment only. You will receive a quotation that sets out what is included, what depends on approvals and what is confirmed per project.
At a glance
Billboards Africa supports billboard advertising by industry, from property developers and retail centres to mining, healthcare, education, agriculture and government. Each sector buys outdoor media differently, so we build the brief around who needs to see the message, from how far away and for how long. Our teams manufacture and erect unipole, monopole, double-sided, V-shape, rooftop and wall-mounted structures, supply digital LED screens, print PVC, mesh and backlit skins, and handle flighting, repairs and inspections. We work in Johannesburg, Sandton, Pretoria and every South African province, and across Southern Africa through travelling teams or approved local partners, confirmed at quotation. Our industry pages explain formats, sites and practical issues for each sector, so you can brief us with confidence and compare options on one basis. Send us your sector and dates.
Every industry still needs approval from the municipality, the roads authority where relevant and the landowner. We assist with applications, while approval rests with the authority. Send us your site details and campaign dates to start.
Common questions
Do you only work with large companies?
No. We quote for single faces and for multi-site programmes. What matters is a clear brief, a workable site and the right approvals, not the size of the business.
Can you supply billboards in my industry across several provinces?
Yes. Work outside Gauteng is done by our teams travelling or through approved local partners, confirmed at quotation. Each municipality has its own approval process.
Do industry rules affect what my billboard can say?
They can. Certain sectors work under advertising codes or regulations. You remain responsible for your message, and we can plan production around any restrictions you tell us about.
Can I rent a face instead of building my own?
We offer billboard space on available sites. Available locations, sizes and flighting periods are confirmed at enquiry.
Do you handle design as well as production?
Yes. Our design service can prepare print-ready artwork, or you can supply your own to our artwork requirements.
