Not every message needs a billboard structure. A large banner on a fence, a facade, an event stage or a construction hoarding can reach a lot of people for a fixed period, without a permanent structure behind it. Large format banner printing makes that possible, as long as the banner is printed and finished for the way it will hang.
Billboards Africa prints large format banners in sizes from modest to very large, on PVC and other suitable materials. We print and finish them, and we can install and remove them with our flighting and access teams.
Where banners are used
Banners are the flexible end of outdoor advertising. They are used on shopfronts and building facades, on fences around construction sites and vacant land, over entrances at events, and across the fronts of showrooms and sales offices. Promotions, openings, tenders, election campaigns and announcements are all common uses.
Because banners are temporary, they suit short and medium campaigns. For a longer or more prominent presence, a billboard face or a building wrap might be a better fit.
Materials and finishing
Solid PVC banners give a smooth surface with strong colour and are widely used for flat, sheltered or moderately exposed positions. For windy sites, perforated mesh banners reduce the load by letting wind through. Which to choose depends on the surface, the exposure and the period.
Finishing makes the difference between a banner that lasts and one that tears at the first gust. Edges are hemmed and reinforced, and eyelets are placed at spacings that suit the fixing method, whether that is rope, cable ties, a frame or a tension system. We discuss fixing at quotation, since the same banner may need different finishing on a fence than on a wall.
- Hemmed and reinforced edges
- Eyelets at spacings suited to the fixing method
- Pole pockets for frames and poles where required
- Welded or joined panels for very large sizes
- Rolled and protected for delivery
Artwork and sizing
Banner artwork should be supplied at the right proportions for the final size, with bleed for hemming. Large banners are viewed from distance, so the same principles that apply to billboards apply here: short copy, strong contrast and large logos. Our artwork requirements guide describes the formats we accept.
Very large banners may be printed in panels and joined, and the seams should be planned in the artwork so that faces or text do not fall across them. If you need layouts prepared, billboard design can help.
Colour expectations should be set early. Large solid areas of colour print differently from photographs, and we advise where adjustments will help.
Installation and removal
Fixing a large banner badly is a common cause of failure. We install banners on fences, walls, frames and facades using suitable fixings and tensioning, with the access method that suits the height. Taller or harder-to-reach positions can be served by rope access.
Removal at the end of the period is part of the service where it is stated on your quotation. Banners on public roadsides and buildings may need approval from the local municipality and the property owner, and we assist through billboard approval assistance.
Ordering banners
Tell us the size of each banner, the surface it will hang on, the number of banners and the dates. If you are unsure of the best material or fixing, send a photo of the position. Printing, finishing and installation are quoted per job.
We print and install banners across Gauteng and all South African provinces, and deliver in Southern and wider Africa. Outside Gauteng and outside South Africa, work is done by our teams travelling or through approved local partners, confirmed at quotation.
At a glance
Large format banner printing from Billboards Africa produces PVC banners to size for buildings, fences, hoardings, shopfronts and event sites. Edges are hemmed and reinforced, eyelets are spaced to suit your fixing method, pole pockets are added where frames are used, and very large banners are printed in panels and joined, with seams planned in the artwork. Solid PVC suits flat or sheltered positions, while perforated mesh suits wind-exposed sites.
Our large format banner printing is backed by installation and removal teams who fit banners to walls, frames and facades, using rope access for higher positions. Banners are ideal for openings, promotions, construction sites, election campaigns and announcements, and for short or medium periods where a billboard structure is not needed. Banners on roadsides or buildings may need municipal and owner approval, and we assist with applications. We print and install in Johannesburg, Sandton, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and across South Africa, and deliver into Southern Africa. Send banner sizes, surface and dates through the quote form for a quotation. Installation and removal are available as part of the same quotation.
Common questions
What is the largest banner you can print?
Very large banners are printed in panels and joined. Maximum sizes depend on the material and the installation method, and are confirmed at quotation.
Should I choose solid PVC or mesh?
Solid PVC suits sheltered or flat positions. Mesh suits windy or exposed sites because it lets wind pass through.
Do banners come with eyelets?
Yes, hemmed edges and eyelets are standard finishing. We space them to suit your fixing method.
Can you install the banners?
Yes. We install and remove banners as part of the quotation where requested.
Do banners need approval?
Banners on roadsides, buildings or public property may need approval from the municipality and the owner. We assist with the application.
How long do banners last?
It depends on the material, the exposure and the fixing. We recommend a material and fixing method per site.
